At Lakshmi, Amy is our Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) , Postpartum Doula, Breath Coach and 200 Hr. Registered Yoga Teacher with a special interest in the treatment of trauma (complex, acute, neglect, abuse), maternal mental health, resiliency, and self-care.
Amy first learned about the power of the breath during her Master’s program- learning how breath can be the main tool in which an individual has access to their inner world and can invite ease and calming where a person may have previously felt chaos and out of control. Amy is grateful for the transformative nature and gift that is Breathwork and the ability to share this tool to empower others in their journey of healing and finding greater peace and joy.
Amy presently serves as the regional lead for Postpartum Support International- an organization dedicated to helping families who suffer from postpartum depression, anxiety, and distress. Amy is additionally the owner of Nurturing Mama- a business dedicated to providing non-judgemental, evidenced based information and support to new mothers. Amy is a social worker at Lakshmi Ayurveda Nashville, providing mind-body therapy. She utilizes a variety of models including Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Experiencing, and Motivational Interviewing. She has worked as a social worker for over 8 years, specializing in children and family mental health in a variety of roles- from a front line worker providing direct services to families, to a Clinical Excellence Director securing RFPs and supporting the oversight of clinical programming. Amy has been a guest instructor at the University of Tennessee Masters in Social Work program teaching on Trauma-Informed Social Work with Children and Adolescents. She received her Bachelor’s in Sociology and Spanish from Tennessee Technological University and her Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Buffalo.
